Getting bitcoins ain't easy. Mining is extremely competitive, and unless you're one of the first to get your hands on an ASIC rig, it is very hard to generate a profit. Not to mention, setting up and maintaining a mining rig is not the simplest thing in the world. In my previous post, I touched upon some of the difficulties and risks associated with purchasing bitcoins. So how do you go about getting bitcoins?
My very first bitcoins came from websites that either gave them out for free or paid them out upon completion of simple tasks, like visiting sponsored websites. Even though the rewards were laughably small, it was a great way to get something into my wallet and start figuring out how it all worked. Sites like Daily Bitcoins and Bitvisitor are instrumental in furthering the adoption of Bitcoin. After all, what's the fun in Bitcoin if you can't even get a taste of it?
By the way, I'm currently working on a free bitcoins site myself. Stay tuned!
